Well, it is that time of the year when we remember the birth of Jesus Christ and practice peace on earth by trampling our neighbors for a killer deal on a T.V.
Yep, Black Friday. That oh so famous day of the year when the love for each other is put aside for the chance to get 40% off on a gift that will most likely be in the dumpster by next Christmas. But, this year was especially poignant as one man working in Valley Stream, NY died when a throng of would-be Wal-Mart shoppers busted open the doors and trampled him to death. To make it worse, apparently when told the store was closing because an employee died a shopper were heard whining "but I've been in line since 10 pm yesterday".
In the words of that dude who filmed the Hindenburg fire 'ohhh the humanity'.
Could our populace sink any lower than to trample a man working to make a few bucks all because 50 inch flat screens were $800? I mean, yeah that's a good deal, but common, is it really THAT important to ones happiness?
I suppose the saddest of these points is what is left out of the media. Less than a month after the first African-American President of the United States a large crowd of African-American shoppers manage this national disgrace. Perhaps they are still excited about the election. Perhaps they are riding high on the Obama-euphoria, or perhaps they just really don't care about other people in this world.
Whatever the reason, I just want to throw this out to those shoppers:
"I hope you are ashamed for what you have done. I hope your new microwave shorts out. I hope your ill-gotten goods bring you the happiness in your life you seem to be missing. And most of all, I hope you are aware enough to realize how uncivilized your behaviour was. Perhaps next year you will take that enthusiasm and shopping love and do something worthwhile, like sending this man's family condolence gifts.
Finally- I hope you use this lesson to raise your children better than you were."
